That Hopeful/Hopeless Holiday Feeling

So, once again the Christmas season is upon us as we push through to the end of another year. During this time of year we see many people running around the mall, looking for gifts, and preparing for festive family gatherings full of that joyful Christmas spirit. But for many, the holidays can be super tough. Maybe for some, this will be their first Christmas without that loved one who’s passed away or the first Christmas alone after a breakup, without the person they loved beside them. For others, that empty stocking is just a reminder of much happier times in the past as they can’t wait to get through this painful season. For many, it brings up so many hurtful childhood memories of a past they’d just as soon completely forget. Plain and simple, this time of year comes with a whole mixed bag of feeling and emotions.

“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” – Jeremiah 33:3

For those of you who “LOVE LOVE LOVE,” this time of year, I’m so happy you’ve been so blessed to feel that way about Christmas! What a treat! I’d like to encourage you real quick in your joyful spirit to keep an eye out for those who you come across who are wearing that permanent “holiday frown.” Please look to reach out and simply smile, say a kind word, or pay for their cup of coffee or meal. Your simple gesture can make a HUGE difference especially in this vulnerable season for so many. It’s such a privilege to be able to take that joy you feel inside to help brighten up a moment of a stranger’s day. So many people are looking for hope and you could be the answer to the prayer they’re praying or the hope they’re seeking. So, I’d just encourage you to look to be a blessing to impart God’s love through you onto someone else. For some, it could be a matter of life and death, you just never know! For others, this could be the last year you get to spend by a loved one’s side, so squeeze them extra tight and tell them how much you care and love them as you just never know what the next year will bring.

For the person reading this who’s completely down, defeated, depressed, and feeling hopeless, please know that God HAS NOT forgotten about YOU! No matter how you feel, you are NOT alone! It doesn’t matter what you think or feel about “some God up there,” church, religion, hypercritical and judgmental Christians, or even celebrating Christmas in general, because God’s love is not dependent on your past or how you feel in this moment. It’s readily available for you to reach out and accept and there is always hope!

No matter what you’re experiencing right now… I know it may feel like the end, but you will get through this! I’d like to encourage you to not go through it alone though! The Bible says, “Call on the Lord and He will answer you.” He loves you so much! I’m truly  sorry for what you may have experienced  in your past or what you’re currently going through in this season, but please know “this too shall pass” and you too can experience the joy and freedom that comes from knowing Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Friend. Forget about “religious babble,” no, I’m talking about a personal friendship with the God of the universe! It’s truly supernatural how He fills you with His Spirit when you choose to put your faith and trust in Him. He is waiting to be your Comforter in this season.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

Will you surrender your will and let Him take over and heal your pain?

So Merry Christmas, my friends! I wish you all the best as you congregate with your loved ones or for you who put your head down and just try to get through this season. I pray God’s many blessings over you!

Sincerely, with All of God’s Love for You,
